Learning objectives

The goals of the course are for students to acquire basic knowledge about speech culture as: 1) a part of general culture that manifests itself in the level of speech perfection, i.e. mastering the skill of correct, accurate and fluent expression of one's thoughts and feelings and in successful communication with other members of the speech community, 2) a field of linguistics which deals with language standardization and elaborates recommendations for skillful use of the language, also to become familiar with the features of the functional styles of Serbian literary language, and to acquire knowledge about the positive and negative communicative features of speech, as well as about the types of written and oral communication.

Learning outcomes

Students will be familiar with the linguistic and stylistic features of the functional styles of the Serbian standard language, especially the journalistic/publicistic style. They will be able to apply stylistic knowledge to the part of the course dedicated to the speech culture, where the positive and negative communicative properties of speech are pointed out. They will be able to detect the characteristics of good and bad expression, and that will help them in writing their own texts.
