Learning objectives

Students will be introduced with the industrial processes of coal preparation and refining in the aim of coal valorization and obtaining quality products of clean coal, as well as other clean coal products, suitable for further industrial use and processing. Students will be introduced with the parameters for the evaluation of the selection of the processes and also, with the control of the coal cleaning process and the way in which this control is achieved in industrial conditions.

Learning outcomes

Students will be able to solve practical tasks in the field of coal preparation and also, to actively introduce in the work of industrial plants for the preparation and refining of coal, scientific research work or to continue studies in this field.

Course contents

Coal - characteristics, classification of coal. General about coal preparation processes. Usage of coal and products from the preparation processes. Parameters for assessing the value of coal and products from the processes. Coal cleaning by the process of gravity concentration in fluid of wather (coarse and fine class). Coal cleaning by the process of gravity concentration in the fluid of heavy media in suspension (coarse and fine classes). Coal cleaning in autogenous suspension. Coal refining - definition and importance, refining procedures. Coking and semi-coking of coal. Coal drying. Grinding of coal into powder. Coal gasification. Technical and elemental analysis of coal. SF analysis - goal of the method, method of presentation, cleaning balances. Control of the cleaning process. Efficiency of separation. Partition number and partition curve.
