Learning objectives

Acquisition of basic information about Geodesy and Mine Surveying, instruments and methods of measurement and processing of measurement results. Informed about the way of making mine graphic documentation, interpretation and reading of basic data from plans and maps. Adoption of basic concepts about specific Mine Surveying tasks at open-pit mines, as well as mines with underground exploitation and the impact of underground mining works on the surface of the terrain.

Learning outcomes

Acquiring basic knowledge in the field of Geodesy and Mine Surveying, with the aim of properly viewing and interpreting analog and digital geodetic foundations, as a basis for designing mine facilities and monitoring the exploitation process and the state of mine works.

Course contents

Definition and tasks of Geodesy and Mine Surveying. The shape and dimensions of the Earth. Projections of the Earth on a plane. Gauss-Kriger conformal projection. Universal Transverse Mercator Projection. Geodetic and mining control networks on the surface and in the mines with underground exploitation. Concept of measurement and measurement errors. Alignment of measured quantities (simple and general arithmetic mean). Instruments and methods of measuring horizontal directions and vertical angles. Instruments and accessories for measuring lengths. Instruments, accessories and methods of measuring height differences. GPS. Calculation of coordinates and altitudes of points. Cartography. Analog and digital plans and digital terrain models. Deformations of maps and plans. Graphical reading of coordinates, lengths and angles from deformed plans. Setting-out of objects in the field. Calculation of elements for permanent marking of points. Tasks of mining measurements at open-pit mines and mines with underground exploitation. Movement of undermined terrain and deformation of terrain and buildings in the zone of influence of mining works.
