Learning objectives

Acquaintance with the application of life cycle assessment (LCA) as an analytical tool and techniques for determining and assessing the overall impact of products on the environment during the manufacture, use and disposal of products.

Learning outcomes

Mastering the basic concepts related to the LCA of products. Students will be able to analyse the use of products from the aspect of environmental impact, to analyse the shortcomings and assess the possibilities of improving the product from the aspect of environmental impact.

Course contents

Terms and definitions in product life cycle analysis (LCA); Defining the objectives of the scope, defining boundaries and specifics; Life Cycle Inventory Analysis (LCI); Life Cycle Impact Assessment (LCIA); Interpretation of results; Limitations of the life cycle analysis approach; LCA in practice (waste management, construction, industry); Development of a life cycle assessment (LCA) for a product or service.
