Learning objectives

The goal of studying the content of the course is aimed at understanding the meaning of media information and the impact it suffers in media production and post-production. But also the influence on its scope, quality and duration by various so-called filters and regulators. The central interest will be focused on the study of techniques, styles and methods of spin and influence on the information pyramid in the world media.

Learning outcomes

Students will be able to recognize the basic techniques, styles and methods of spinning media information created during production, post-production and dissemination.
Students will distinguish the practice of spin in media spheres.
They will be able to influence the information through some spin technique or method.

Course contents

istorical roots of spin; Bernays's manipulations and Borstin's premonitions; The influence of Hollywood and the Pentagon on media production; Principles of media influence, techniques, models and styles of spinning; Information flow control; Spin as a defensive tool; The President's image as a spin; PR agencies in the service of governments; Industry of media contributions; Spin Doctors in Great Britain; Spinning in the USA; Spinning practice in other countries; Spin out of the West (Srbija). Big affairs and spin failures.

Evaluation and grading

Students' knowledge will be checked through a colloquium, independent papers and a final exam.

Teaching Methods

Classes will be conducted ex cathedra with continuous student participation through encouragement for conversation, polemics, critical analysis, comparison of knowledge and the like.
