Learning objectives

Theoretical understanding of conflict and peaceful conflict resolution; Mediation as a way of constructive conflict resolution in social work; Knowledge of the stages of the mediation process; Understanding the legal framework for mediation; Areas of application mediation in social work.

Learning outcomes

Understanding the positive aspects of conflict; understanding the role of the mediator; Identifying the main preconditions for a peaceful resolution of the conflict; Theoretical and practical understanding of nonviolent communication; understanding the key features of mediation; Understanding the specific features of mediation
in certain areas of social work.

Course contents

Theoretical explanations of conflict and mediation models; Assertiveness as a factor in peaceful conflict resolution; Nonviolent communication as a factor in peaceful conflict resolution; Conflict styles; The concept of mediation; Stages of the mediation process; Mediator skills; Formal and informal mediation; Development of mediation in BiH and RS; Legal framework for the application of mediation; Areas of application of mediation in social work; Mediation in labor disputes; Family mediation and mediation in the process of divorce; Mediation in juvenile delinquency; Mediation in the education system; Community mediation.
