Learning objectives

To acquaint students with global processes that govern the structure, creation and distribution of media institutions, and thus media systems. The analyzes are focused on the problems of concentration and centralization of media capital, issues of acquisitions, mergers, joint ventures on the one hand, and the problem of convergence on the other. In addition, the main topics within the course will refer to some important internal issues of the ethical functioning of media production and dissemination, such as: processes of downloading news and the character of the information pyramid, the use of spin and political manipulation on news, the problem of clientelism, the problem of context manipulation, the use of anonymous sources, communication sovereignty, the future of new media and more.

Learning outcomes

Students can gain insights into the current problems of media production, post-production and dissemination. They will have the opportunity to get to know the nature and operation of the most important world currents that affect the functioning and organization of the media. Students will be able to recognize and mark media processes that confirm the existence and influence of clientelism on the character of the news and its scope of duration and character (broadcasting). Students will be able to explain the processes of creation and creation of media content and to recognize unethical approaches in journalistic processing of content.

Media systems and typologies of media systems; Contemporary processes in media systems; Production and exchange of mass media content; Distribution and problem of download of media content; Financing of mass media content; The influence of filters and regulators on media content; Formal and informal control of media content (regulation, self-regulation and ethics). ideology and propaganda and creation of media content; media content on the Internet.

Students' knowledge will be checked through a colloquium, students papers and a final exam.
