Organic Chemistry I, Unit Operations

Form of prerequisites:

Passed exams

Learning objectives

Introduce students with the basic process of processing the raw materials of the organic chemical industry into products, from chemical reactions to industrial processes, in order to master successful control and process control. Also, introduce students with characteristics of synthetic polymer materials and using them in consumer products or industrial purposes.

Learning outcomes

The student knows the basic processes of the organic chemical industry and the relevant parameters for monitoring the process. The student is trained to manage the process of manufacturing articles of synthetic polymer materials.

Course contents

Chemistry of polymer molecules, basic terms and divisions. Polymer supermolecular structure (amorphous state, polymeric crystals). Methods of polymer synthesis (ionic polymerization, radical polymerization). Technological processes for the production of high performance polymeric materials: poly (ethylene) high and low pressure poly (vinyl chloride), poly (styrene), poly (propylene), poly (estri), poly (amide), poly (urethane), epoxy resins, resins, urea resins, and the like. Copolymers. Biodegradability of polymers.

Evaluation and grading

Written and oral exam, oral presentation of a seminar work.

Teaching Methods

Group presentations of seminar papers by students as supplementary materials (production and presentation). Laboratory exercises-student works independently with prior examination of exercises, and after the completed experiment, the report is written. Visits to formwork products.
