Learning objectives

Acquiring basic knowledge of interaction between roads and the environment. Getting acquainted with activities and possible measures of protection and improvement of the environment through the life cycle of roads. Training for the application of acquired knowledge in practice during the process of planning, design, construction, exploitation and maintenance of roads.

Learning outcomes

Upon completion of the program, the student is able to see the potential causes, examine and analyze the consequences of the traffic impacts on the environment, he is prepared to make optimum solutions in terms of defined causes, in order to eliminate or minimize the negative effect.

Course contents

Concept of sustainable development. Traffic policy and environmental protection. Road life cycle. Basic aspects of interaction between roads and the environment. Types of environmental impacts in the life cycle of roads and engineering-organizational-regulatory measures of protection (noise, vibration, air, water, soil, occupation of areas, flora and fauna, microclimate, visual pollution, energy and resources, security, socio- influences, natural heritage, cultural heritage, risks). Environmental indicators in the area of roads. Regulatory and methodological bases for carrying out an analysis of the impacts of roads on the environment. The relationship between the environmental impact assessment and the planning phase of the road and project documentation of the roads. Environmental impact assessment (strategic study, preliminary assessment, detailed assessment). Preliminary and main project of technical protection measures. Activity management plan. Project of ecological landscaping. Contractual obligations. Monitoring the state of the environment during construction and exploitation of roads. Evaluation of the quality of the environmental impact analysis. Public participation. Traffic management. Environmental management subsystem. Basic principles. Standards. Application of ecological management subsystems in the area of roads. Optimization of activities during the life cycle of roads. Economic aspects of the subsystem of environmental management in the area of roads.
