Prerequisite for taking the course is to submit and defend semestral assignments. Prerequisite for taking the exam is to get a positive grade.

Learning objectives

Basics of calculation and construction of wooden and steel structures.

Learning outcomes

Mastering the basic calculation and dimensioning procedures of wooden and metal structures. Development
creativity and ability to independently formulate and solve engineering problems.

Course contents

History of wood, basic terms, classes of wood, botanical types of wood, permissible stresses, loads. Calculation and construction of wooden rods: bending, centric pressure and tension, eccentric pressure and tension. Calculation and construction of wooden rods: bending, centric pressure and tension, eccentric pressure and tension. Fasteners in wooden structures. Connections and extensions in wooden structures (carpentry and static connections and extensions). Lattice supports in wooden structures. Classic types of wooden roof structures. Glued laminated structures, basic terms. History of steel, basic terms, mechanical and chemical properties of steel structures, bars, sheets, profiled supports, hollow profiles, cold-formed profiles. Calculation and construction of steel rods: bending, centric pressure and tension, eccentric pressure and tension. Calculation and construction of steel rods: bending, centric pressure and tension, eccentric pressure and tension. Fasteners in metal structures. Connections and extensions in metal structures (extensions, hinged and rigid connections). Lattice supports in metal structures. Tin brackets.
