Learning objectives

Energy-efficient and sustainable construction is a need, vision and imperative in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the EU. The aim is to promote the principles of modern architecture from the EU and the world-wide and make an integrative design process available to students and professionals. The course uses the experience on construction of our new Faculty building, which represents innovative and modern educational space built on the principles of energy efficient design.

Learning outcomes

Students will acquire the necessary knowledge in various fields related to energy efficiency in buildings. They will also be able to technically and economically assess and propose the necessary measures to solve the problem of efficient use of energy in buildings and to use the hardware and software technology for analyzing energy efficiency of buildings.

Course contents

The concept and principles of energy efficient and sustainable construction. The low-energy and passive standards, the experience of the EU and neighboring countries. Modern passive solar technology systems in the function of sustainability and comfort improvement. Active and passive solar systems. Architectural form, technology and nature. The first assesment, public presentations, dialogue. Thermal comfort. Requirements. Standards. The physical parameters of the environment. Heat transfer through the building envelope. Specific remarks:
