Learning objectives

To acquire the necessary knowledge in the field of foundation of different types of construction structures

Learning outcomes

After completing the course, the student is able to dimension the foundations (shallow, deep) and support structures. He is also capable of calculating the insurance of the foundation pit

Course contents

Footings. System of straps. Beams on the elastic base. Foundation of the grill system. Common foundation for several pillars-counter beams. The foundations of prefabricated (concrete, steel) pillars. Improvement of mechanical soil properties "in situ". Geosynthetic materials (division, way of use). Protection the foundation pits with retaining walls and embankments. Foundation under protection of embankment. Deep foundations. Different types of deep foundation (piles, wells, caissons, diaphragms). Principles of deep foundation calculations. Calculation and dimensioning of piles. Calculation of the retaining walls' stability. Dynamic Loaded Foundations. Foundations in seismically active areas.

Specific remarks:

The student is obliged to attend classes and do and defend seminar work. Knowledge tests during the semester (colloquiums) are not repeated. For a student who did not attend semester examinations or did not achieve a passing score (at least 51% of points envisaged for checking knowledge), a written exam will be organized.
