Learning objectives

Introduction to the basic procedures of calculation and dimensioning of Steel structures and connections.

Learning outcomes

Students will be trained to solve and calculate extensions and connections of steel structure elements. Students will be able to learn calculation methods and present the application of methods on the example of the selected problem, as well as the application of valid standards for the calculation and construction of extensions of connections between structural elements.

Course contents

ntroductory lecture, means of connection, the concept of connection and extension, category of bolted connection, principle of connection behavior. Shear and crushing load capacity of bolts on the hole envelope, tension load capacity. Prestressed bolts, load capacity of prestressed bolts, welded connections and characteristics. Division of connections into simple-pinned and moment-bearing - semi-rigid and rigid, calculation of assembly connections, rules for designing connections. Calculation of assembly connections, axially tensioned rods. Calculation of assembly connections, beams loaded with T and N, hinged connection. Calculation of assembly connections, beams loaded with M, T and N, rigid connection statically covered connections, connection in completely welded construction. Calculation and design of connections, beam and column connection, division. Hinged connection, connection with end plate, connection with connecting sheet. Hinged connection, connection with connecting angles, connection with chair. Rigid-moment connection, connection with continuity plate. Rigid connection, connection with end plate, connection in completely welded construction. Rigid connection, connection with end plate, connection with angles on legs. Solid sheet metal beams, basic concepts, load capacity control according to load capacity state. Solid sheet metal beams, deformation control, vibration.

Evaluation and grading

Semestral assignment 10 points, 1st colloquium 20 points, 2nd colloquium 20 points, Final exam 50 points.

Teaching Methods

Interactive lectures and exercises with work on individual assignments. Consultations.

Specific remarks:

Completion of a semester assignment is mandatory. Two colloquiums are held. Students who do not pass the colloquium (or are dissatisfied with the number of points or are excused from absence) in the first term of the exam can take a remedial colloquium. From the first colloquium, a remedial one is held. The written exam is bonused by the number of points obtained in the colloquiums. Students who do not pass the written exam through the colloquium can take the integral written exam. The oral exam consists of a test and a conversation with the teacher.
