The prerequisite for listening is the completed course Rural Geography, the condition for taking the exam is passing the exam in Rural Geography.

Completed course and passed the exam.

Learning objectives

Adoption of relevant theoretical-methodological settings of contemporary urban geography, knowledge of factors of development of urban settlements and their contemporary spatial-functional organization and transformation. Acquiring concrete knowledge about the factors and characteristics of the development of urban settlements in Bosnia and Herzegovina (Republic of Srpska).

Learning outcomes

Mastery of scientific and professional material in the field of urban geography and the ability to apply specific knowledge in the process of planning the network and system of urban settlements and their structures. Understanding the development processes in the urban system of B&H/RS. Adoption and application of research methods and techniques of urban settlements in the process of planning and preparation of spatial planning documentation.

1. Theoretical and methodological basis and development of urban geography.
2. Urbanization - phases, dynamics and models. The process and characteristics of urbanization in Bosnia and Herzegovina
3. City functions - functional typology of cities.
4. Theories and models of the spatial structure of the city.
5. Spatial-functional structure of the city - use of city land.
6. Models of spatial-functional structure.
7. Functional structure of the city in urban plans.
8. Demographic structure of the city.
9. City plan. Cultural-genetic types.
10. Planning of the city space - compact and dispersed city.
11. City and surroundings. Daily urban system.
12. Theories and models of the development of city regions and agglomerations in planning.
13. City in the region. Nodal regions.
14. Smart city. Contemporary challenges in city planning.
15. Development processes and urban development planning in B&H.

Evaluation and grading

Attending classes and activities – 5 points; Colloquium – 20 points; Seminar paper (presentation) – 15 points; Oral exam - 60 points.
